Things To Do on Kauai
The following is a sampling of the things to do on Kauai and in the Wailua area. If you need help planning and reserving your Island activities and tours, please contact our Personal Concierge, Sherrie Orr at (808) 635-9594.
Wailua River & Fern Grotto Tour
Take a cruise up the Wailua River by kayak or on a Fern Grotto Boat Tour. Or make a day of it and experience one of the best things to do on Kauai. The Best of Kauai Tour includes the Wailua River Fern Grotto excursion as well as a day worth of fun and effortless exploring of the Island’s best scenic locations.
One of Kauai’s most beautiful locations is Hanalei Bay. An expansive white sand crescent shaped bay where ocean sports lovers and sun bathers congregate. A variety of ocean and water sports are enjoyed on the Bay and in the adjoining Hanalei river with equipment rentals available in Hanalei Town, just a few minutes away. The quaint town of Hanalei offers a wide range of eateries and shops set amongst the backdrop of majestic mountains carved with dozens of waterfalls.

Kauai’s NaPali Coast
Inaccessible except by sea, by air or by hiking, the Na Pali Coast is a stretch of rugged coastline on Kauai’s North side with isolated white sand beaches, verdant valleys, waterfalls and wildlife. Visit the NaPali Coast by Tour Boat, Helicopter or Airplane Tour or for the adventurous at heart, you can hike the 11 mile trail into Kalalau Valley, the heart of the NaPali Coast.
The Waimea Canyon – Koke’e State Park
Travel up the Waimea Canyon to Koke’e State Park and visit Koke’e Natural History Museum where you will find a display of flora, fauna, natural history of the area and collections of shells and Hawaiian artifacts. If you like to hike or just take a short stroll, this area offers numerous hiking trails and scenic viewpoints where you will encounter some of the most breathtaking scenery in Hawaii.
County/State Parks & Beaches:
Kauai Farmer’s Markets:
Buy locally grown vegetables, fruits and tropical flowers at any one of the Island’s many weekly Farmer’s Markets. The Kapaa Farmer’s Market is our favorite and is closest to most of Rosewood Vacation Rentals. There is another Farmer’s Market on the East Side at Kealia too.
Get a Massage or Spa Treatment at Spa by the Sea Kauai. Spa by the Sea is a relaxing Day Spa located in the lobby of the Waipouli Beach Resort across from the Safeway shopping center in Kapaa. Featuring unique Hawaiian Spa services such as Noni Healing Facials, Hawaiian flower footbaths, Lomi Lomi Massage and Volcanic clay body treatments. Spa by the Sea uses pure organic ingredients in all of their products and offers a healing boutique filled with books, herbs, candles, clothing and body products.

The Forbidden Island of Ni`ihau
Learn about the Forbidden Island of Ni`ihau, visible on the West side of Kauai, and the rare fine Ni`ihau shell jewelry that are handmade by local artisans. www.NiihauHeritage.org
The geyser like spray of Kauai’s Spouting Horn in Poipu is caused by the sea forcing itself through a volcanic lava tube.
Opaeka’a Falls is about 1.3 miles from the start of Route 580. We’re told there are shrimp in the pool beneath the falls, emerging from their hiding places at night. Across the highway from the waterfall lookout is a great view of the sacred Wailua River, valley and the Kipu mountain range in the distance.
These dramatic 80′ twin waterfalls can be seen from Highway 583 or Maalo Road and were used in the opening of the television series Fantasy Island. The cliff over the pool once served as a diving platform for the Ali`i (Hawaiian royalty).
